Effect of levamisole on immunity to Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in mice and sheep.
نویسنده
چکیده
The stimulating effect of levamisole on immunity to Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in mice was marginal, while no enhancement of immunity could be detected in sheep. The conclusion was reached that, as levamisole has no potentiating effect on immunity to C. pseudotuberculosis in normal sheep, it is of no practical value as an immunostimulant in this instance.

Experiments were undertaken to enhance the immune response of mice, guinea pigs and sheep to C. pseudotuberculosis vaccine. The antibody response of guinea pigs was not increased either by the simultaneous administration of form...

Extensive experiments in mice confirmed that the immunogenicity of a Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis vaccine could not be significantly improved with the use of various adjuvants. Immunity against C. pseudotuberculosis likewise could not be enhanced by incorporating various immunostimulants into the vaccine or by the use of live vaccines. However, a combination of aluminium hydroxide gel and...
متن کاملIdentification of a novel antigen from Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis that protects sheep against caseous lymphadenitis.
A 40-kDa protein antigen from Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis has been identified by application of a strategy that employs locally derived antibody-secreting cells (ASC). ASC probes generated by culture of ASC obtained from the lymph node draining the site of infection showed a specificity restricted to a 40-kDa antigen. Analysis of immunoblots with sequential serum samples taken from sheep...
متن کاملAttenuation and vaccine potential of aroQ mutants of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis.
Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, a gram-positive intracellular bacterial pathogen, is the etiological agent of the disease caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) in both sheep and goats. Attenuated mutants of C. pseudotuberculosis have the potential to act as novel live veterinary vaccine vectors. We have cloned and sequenced the aroB and aroQ genes from C. pseudotuberculosis C231. By allelic exchange,...

Background: Caseous Lymphadenitis (CLA) is an important bacterial disease in goats, caused by Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis. The disease is highly prevalent worldwide and causes significant economic losses to the cattle industry. Currently, the treatment of this disease with antibiotics remains largely unsuccessful due to the nature of the bacteria and the resultant resistance to the drugs...
